Lava Gryphonby =Junryou-na-Kokoro

The concept behind this piece originated on one of my visits to
Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. The guide began speaking about
Pele, the deity of Hawaiian mythology, and my imagination took off.

What if Pele had a pet? I bet it would be this fiery,
gryphon-creature. It would walk across lava flows,
patrolling his lady's sacred grounds.

I sketched out what I thought the gryphon would look like,
and when I got home, started painting it in Photoshop. Problem
was, I could not get a solid feel for the piece, so I set it aside.
Three years later, I finally had a solid concept for how I wanted
the piece to look. Here is the final result!
