Pokemon speed painting #2!

Many people asked for Absol, and since I have been meaning to draw Absol for quite some time, Absol it was!

:3 Hope y'all enjoy.

Done in Photoshop. Approx time ~4-5 hours

...I need to stop procrastinating & get to work on my other art... :shakefist: *coughJAMcough*

Wow, I love to see artistic interpretations of Pokemon. I read somewhere that there are a lot of cat like absols but barely maybe even no dog like absols. Do you think that a dog like absol would work? Anyway, I love how you have done the fur on these, it's perfect. Usually I look around peoples entire gallery when I first find them but I've been a bit slow so you will probably find a whole bunch of comments around the place.

I believe Absol is more dog-like than feline, but I also think it's up to an artist's interpretation. :3 Either one can work, so long as it sticks closely to the original design.

So it would be like drawing Rayquaza as a bird or a slug as opposed to the general idea of a snake. It'd be nice to see a variety of interpretations of Pokemon like yours :-)

Really gorgeous job. I love the fur. It looks so fluffy and detailed. I'm sorry for asking this....but what is speedpainting? I keep hearing that term and I have no clue whatsoever. The results always look amazing though. Anyway lovely work! One thing I should mention is Absol is actually based on the hakutaku, which is a feline, (that's just my biggest pet peeve), but other than that beautiful work

Oh no worries - it's when you paint a piece fairly quickly - say no more than a few hours. Many a time it leaves a work looking rough/undefined, but that quality shows how the artist works in a piece.

Oh really? I had no idea it was based on that!

coolest absol ever.
I wish pokemon were real.

If i could have one pokemon i just wouldn't be able to choose between Absol and Arcanine. XD

but this picture is so pretty and detailed.
i just love how your style progresses and how much attention you spend on the background as much the subject. it really shows. <3

^^ Thank you.

Heh, well... I first start with an idea in my head of how I want the "atmosphere" of the piece to be. In this case, I knew I wanted it to be gloomy, so the colors & lighting had to be sort-of neutral and dull. From there, I decided where the light source (the sun) was coming from. That determined where the shadows and highlights would fall. From there, it's just using my best knowledge/experience as to where and how to put the lights and colors. :)

Wonderful portrayal of a realistic Absol! I've always wondered what he, along with lots of other pokemon, would look like in real life. :giggle:

I adore the texture of his coat, and his eyes are so bright and piercing. :D Awesome background, too! :aww:

Really interesting interpretation of absol. I've never been able to get it properly into my head what it would look like in reality but this really fits. I really love the mountainous setting, defiantly the environment I'd picture absol in.
I'd be really interested to see what your interpretation of pokemon like the abra evo line is...

I know what you mean - I had to debate and brainstorm as to what Absol would look like in the flesh. At first I leaned toward a mountain goat, but Absol doesn't have the correct body type - it has more of a canid/felid body type, so that's where I took it.

Thank you! Glad it works out. :3

I might do the Abra line sometime, dunno when.
