The Oath by Junryou-na-Kokoro The Oath by Junryou-na-Kokoro
Illustration for my Illustration I class - it depicts a scene in the Christian fiction novel, The Oath by Frank Peretti. (Peretti = genius)

In the book, this dragon embodies the sinful nature of the mountain town it frequents. The people of that town are all deeply immersed in their sins and are marked by the dragon. Once they receive that mark, the dragon hunts them down and devours them.

It isn't until an outsider comes to town to avenge his brother's death (eaten by the dragon) that the dragon itself is revealed.

This scene depicts the moment when the character confronts the dragon for the first time.

Anyways, I recommend this novel, it's a thrilling read!

"Aw...you're beautiful when you're angry" :icontrollrollplz:

I could've taken the advice not to read that book at night. XD Couldn't sleep cause, the part where Tracy gets her top half chomped off scared me. And the part where the town went into a full scale riot with black goo all over it... *shudders*.

Nevertheless, it's one of the best reads ever. I love your rendition of the dragon and Steve Benson.

Now that I think about it, this picture is an excellent depiction when Steve was been used by the dragon! It's really good! Say, what did your Illustration teacher thought about it?

I really love the detail that you put into the scales, as well as the wonderful work on perspective <3 the lighting around the human character is really cool too! The way it outlines him it helps him stand out against the background. Though the composition of the piece helps with that too, the way the dragon points in the human character's direction :>

I just might need to check this book out~ Seems very interesting!

Well he's written a bunch of books - my favorites being: The Oath, This Present Darkness, Piercing the Darkness, Hangman's Curse, and Nightmare Academy.

Sure! Lay 'em on me. :D

I shall write these down and look 'em up! I'm always looking for more literature to read <333 I think I've heard of Hangman's curse...did that come out a while back? I think when I was in middle school maybe...

Ah ah! So, my best friend and her family usually find a series and share it...and since I've been "adopted" I have been given many books to read (some thoroughly loved lol) and even more suggestions! :D

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner
The Lightning Thief, The Lost Hero, and The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (I haven't read this yet, but I'm excited too pick it up! I've heard so many good things)
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare (again, haven't read it yet but my adoptive family has yet to let me down with their taste in literature)

And here's some books I found on my own :>
Through Wolf's Eyes and Thirteen Orphans by Jane Lindskold
The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagel (don't judge lol it's actually really good! and a very short read)
The Sight, Fell, and Firebringer by David Clement-Davies
Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya (it's a manga but still...I just love it to pieces. There's so many good morals in this story, I think it's must read for anyone.)

If you have any questions lemme know! Many of these are a part of a series :) So if you like the first one, I'll direct you to the next one! I'm excited to read more books! I'm currently reading the last installment to Megan Whalen Turner's "Thief" series and it's getting so good : o

Now here's a book I've never seen fan-art for before! I read this book a little over 5 years ago, and I initially had the worst time "getting into it" - but about half way through I found I loved it.

I think you captured the appearance of the main character and the dragon just right... though I think I always pictured his (the dragon's) scales a little more... silvery or something. But my memory of the book could be foggy too. I can't even remember the main character's name anymore. :XD:

Excellent job! I love the lighting - the way it comes from behind the man balances out the dragon somewhat. :)

I know, right? It's so depressing how little fan-art Peretti's books have.

Yup, you're right - in the book they are much more "reflective" and have a silver shimmer (Frank describes them as reflective highway signs). I unfortunately didn't have the time to go back and work that characteristic. Plus I was having too much fun with the green scales to change them up xD

Thanks very much!

Woah...the detail! Those scales look really shiny and metallic! The horns also look like metal, and really...sharp. xD The expression is smooth and great... :D Those wings look mighty awesome too, and the guy is accurately proportioned and I love the lighting around him!
You did an overall epic job. ^^

^^ Glad I pulled that off - in the book, the author describes the dragon's scales as flashing emeralds and rubies, like highway reflectors. I'm not sure I completely succeeded with that look, but I still like how it turned out.

Thank you!

Fabulous piece, Rosie. :)

Not only is the composition/perspective totally creative, but the colors themselves are so vibrant and flowing! The scales especially caught my eye--they actually look like they have that special shine that some reptiles have. So awesome! I think it's interesting that the dragon is so beautiful, yet he represents sin. (Or is it just me who thinks he's beautiful? D: )

All in all, this is yet another wonderful piece from Rosie! :dummy: :glomp:
