The Origin of Fire by Junryou-na-Kokoro The Origin of Fire by Junryou-na-Kokoro

Well, here is the piece that I entered into the Colorado State's Art & Science Exhibition last month. It was selected to be a part of the show - one of less than 40 pieces chosen from over 150 entries this year! I was shocked and excited when I heard that my piece was to be in the show.

So here y'all are - the Apache legend of the origin of fire. Basically, Fox steals fire from the Firefly village after learning how to fly from the Geese. Then he passes the fire on to the rest of the world, but in the end, the fireflies punish him for stealing their fire. As a result, Fox cannot use fire for himself.

Enjoy!

 I agree with you. This is the type of work I do outside of dA. :eyes:

The piece is based off of the Apache legend called the "Origin of Fire." If you look it up on Google, it'll probably be there. :3

Thank you, Scarlet!

Wow, it looks truely amazing! I'd love to see the piece in real life - I'm sure is fantastic :meow:

I think my favourite part has to be the sectional cut out sections with the fox and the geese on both sides. The contrast with the full pictures really brings it to life~

It must have taken you so long to do it, you truely deserved to have your piece on show! Congratulations again :huggle:

Y'know, I'm sure people have already said this, but it's no shock that they chose your work. And I'm not saying that just because I'm a friend! This is just... wow. Gorgeous.

I can only see a portion of this amazing work, but even from that, I can see how much effort and hard work went into this! :) You've really shown your mastery of these media. The story is wonderful, too. I wish I could see this in the actual exhibition! :glomp: Major congratulations again!

xD Yes, since the exhibit was for "science-inspired" works, rather than narrative pieces.

Thank you!

Awesome!!!! :o
My favorite section is when the fox learns to fly, amazing. I don't know exactly why (since I don't know you really) but I feel very pround of you and of this piece.

Keep doing this and I'll probably have to pay to see your art soon ;)

Hmm, well it fits within a space of 10 ft wide and 4 ft high. So about 3 meters wide and a little more than 1 meter high. :)

It is all traditionally done. I used colored pencils, ink, acrylic, graphite, and coffee on hand-torn, pre-dyed paper. The cut outs of fox and the other animals were all made by hand with an X-acto knife!
